This tower obvious got its name from the village of Skibo. SKIBO, a village in sections 21 and 28, Bassett Township (T. 58N, R. 13W), formerly a station of the Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range Railroad, was named for Skibo Castle, the summer home of Andrew Carnegie, on the north shore of Dornoch Firth in the northern part of Scotland. The village had two post offices: the first operated 1902-13; the second was at Norman, 1897-1918, with Peter Norman as postmaster, was transferred to Skibo in 1918, and was discontinued in 1919. The tower is not standing! When I lived in this area 20 years ago, the road to Skibo Lookout ended here. Now road is upgraded and continues as a link in the route from the east range sities to the North Shore.

The picture above shows the anchor pads of the tower. The bottom picture captures the view. Heavy clouds populated the sky this day. Bolts of lightening provided a light show and made me glad I was not sitting in the tower when it existed.
