REMER was named in honor of E. N. and William P. Remer, brothers, of whom the former was treasurer and manager of the Reishus-Remer Land Company of Grand Rapids, and the latter was the first postmaster here. The post office in the town began in 1904, along with a sawmill and several stores, and a station of the Soo Line Railroad. Minnesota Historical Society
