Molde was the first inland settelment west of Lake Superior. A post office was established there around 1900 but the name Molde, with a soft e sound, became americanised to be pronounced Moldy like bad bread.

The first post Master was Halver Halversen who immigrated from Molde, Norway. He gave the settlement it's name.

A farmers co-op association was established in 1913 and promptly changed the name to Clover Valley.
