Stands on a very pominent hill alongside highway 53. A number of communiction antenae occupy the hill. The old tower itself serves as a base for a couple. The hill also had a nice series of hiking/skiing trails

GHEEN is a village in section 5 of Leiding Township (T. 63N, R. 19W). About 1890, mixed-blood Ojibwe brothers William and Stephen Gheen homesteaded a tract east of Gheen at Elbow Lake, developing a government farm and trading post, where Stephen was Indian agent for ten years. It had a post office, 1906-16, with William as postmaster, for whom the community was named. The post office name was changed to Alvina, 1916-18, and changed back to Gheen in 1919; it had a Duluth, Winnipeg and Pacific Railway station. Minnesota Place Names

Gheen Hill Trails 12.2 km trackset. 12.2 km skate-ski. Mostly beginner level trails. Located from Virginia, about 40 mi N on Hwy 53, or 3.5 mi S of Orr. Trails over gentle hills through pine, birch and aspen forest. Wildlife feeding areas. Challenging, hilly trails being added. Maps along trail. Ski pass required.
