The cook tower stands on land adjacent to a DNR field office. This tower still stands. I visited on a gloomy winter day. I foolishly drove down the road to the tower site. I got stuck with my little low-slung cavalier. Fortunately I learn from past foolish decisions and I carry a shovel in the car.

COTTON Township was named in honor of Joseph Bell Cotton, a lawyer of Duluth. He was born in Albion, Ind., January 6, 1865; was graduated at the Michigan Agricultural and Mechanical College, Lansing, 1886; was admitted to the bar and two years later settled in Duluth; was a representative in the legislature in 1893. The village in section 15 has had a post office since 1905. Minnesota Historical Society

The Lake Williams snowmobile trails runs near the tower. The tower's state of repair resembles this sign.
